How much does the energy code matter in my town? And why is it important? This report provides an overview of the Kansas City region’s various building code policies and discusses how the efficiency of our homes and buildings impacts human health, well-being, and the economy. And with the unprecedented quantity of federal funds through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), along with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA, aka the BIL), there is no better time to invest in energy efficiency and update our energy codes to create a strong growth in clean energy jobs and healthy and more equitable communities

Hospital staff witnessed positive health outcomes with many of their young asthma patients whose families had enrolled in a “healthy homes” program and received healthy home information, resources and repairs. For nearly a decade, MEC administered weatherization and energy efficiency renovations that keep indoor air in and outdoor air out. This study brings data from the two entities together to compare health outcomes for patients whose homes had weatherization performed and those whose did not.

Report summarizing outreach and engagement in under-served neighborhoods of Kansas City, related to end-user needs and stakeholder interests and concerns about EVSE installations on public rights-of-way. This report outlines the outcomes of listening sessions regarding how MEC and other funders can better connect and work with community based organizations. Our work under the U.S. Dept of Energy Clean Cities framework continues to evolve in ways such that we can better serve communities that are traditionally left out of project design and outcomes decision-making.
